What is MyMedicare?

MyMedicare was introduced by the federal government on 1st October 2023 as an initiative to formalise the relationship between patients, their general practice, general practitioner (GP) and primary healthcare teams.

Patients register in MyMedicare and select their general practice and nominate a preferred doctor as part of the process.

While registration for MyMedicare is voluntary, we encourage you to register with Nunawading Clinic and your regular GP to formalise your patient-doctor relationship.

Your MyMedicare registration will let the practice and your doctor know that you see us as your regular clinical team for your healthcare needs.

It’s simple. You can either register online or in person at Nunawading Clinic.

Online via myGov

  1. Sign in to myGov and select Medicare
  2. Select ‘Register for MyMedicare’
  3. Select Nunawading Clinic under ‘search for your practice’
  4. Select you preferred GP
  5. Submit you registration, then follow the prompts

Online via the Express Plus Medicare app

  1. Download the Express Plus Medicare App
  2. Sign in by linking your account to myGov
  3. Select ‘MyMedicare’ under Services
  4. Register for MyMedicare by following the prompts

In person at Nunawading Clinic

Patients who register with a DVA Card will not be able to register online.

If you are unable to complete the registration process online, simply ask the reception team at Nunawading Clinic and they will provide you with a hard copy form that we can submit on your behalf.

Registering in MyMedicare is free and voluntary for all patients who hold a valid Medicare card or a Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) card AND have had two face-to-face visits at the same clinic in the last 24 months (except in remote areas where only 1 visit is required – not applicable for Nunawading Clinic)

Registering in MyMedicare will allow you to access more health services, including longer telehealth visits and chronic disease management plans, with your regular GP. This allows your regular GP to provide you with continued holistic care and strengthen their relationship with you.

By registering as a patient of Nunawading Clinic and selecting your preferred GP, additional funding will be available from the government to assist your primary care team in delivering the care you need.

First, register with Nunawading Clinic (or other preferred general practice), and then you can select your preferred GP.

You can still see any of the GP’s at Nunawading Clinic. While it is preferrable that you see your preferred GP, for continuity of care and maintenance of your relationship, this is not always possible.

Ideally, you should see your preferred GP for any benefits linked to your MyMedicare registration, such as long Chronic Disease Management MBS items (Care Plans), but any of the GP’s at Nunawading Clinic can assist you with this if needed.

Yes, you can still choose to visit a different general practice if you are registered in MyMedicare at Nunawading Clinic.

It is important to note that by doing so, you won’t be able to access the benefits linked to your MyMedicare registration at any clinic you aren’t registered with. For example, if you have chosen to register in MyMedicare at Nunawading Clinic, you can only claim Chronic Disease Management MBS items exclusively at Nunawading Clinic (with any of the doctors here, even if they aren’t listed as your preferred GP)

No, you can only be registered under one general practice at any given time.

If someone you know is incapable of providing consent to register in MyMedicare, a responsible person can provide consent and register on their behalf.

This can be the parent or guardian of a minor, a person who holds power of attorney or a guardianship order, or the next of kin.

If you believe someone in your care will benefit from registering in MyMedicare, talk to their GP.

Simply ask the front desk staff at Nunawading Clinic and they’ll be happy to assist.

Registration in MyMedicare is free.

Yes, you can withdraw your consent at any time.

All personal information is kept secure and your privacy maintained.

MyMedicare does not store any of your clinical health information.
